A Week in Japan: Reflections on the VC Journey, Team, and the Mountains We Choose to Climb

11/12/25

Recently, I spent a deeply meaningful week in Japan attending our year-end Global Offsite, where all members of our fund came together to reflect on the year behind us and to envision what lies ahead. Beyond the meetings and discussions, it was a week filled with unforgettable moments—moments that invited me to pause, reflect, and reconnect with why I chose this journey in Venture Capital in the first place.

One moment that touched me deeply was being honored with the Best Genesian 2025 award by our GPs, Soichi Tajima and Takahiro Suzuki, and the broader team. I received this recognition with gratitude and humility. To me, it is not a reward for short-term outcomes, but an acknowledgment of persistence, discipline in thinking and action, and a long-term commitment to building something sustainable for Genesia Ventures in Vietnam. In a profession that often celebrates speed and visible wins, this recognition reaffirmed my belief that consistency and disciplined thinking and action toward our long-term vision truly matter.

Another experience that left a lasting impression was mountain climbing with my teammates. It turned out to be far more than a physical activity—it became a powerful metaphor for our journey in Venture Capital. Climbing a mountain toward the summit is, in many ways, similar to pursuing meaningful goals in this profession. It requires determination, the right mindset and posture, and carrying only what is essential if you want to go far. Most importantly, it requires the right companions—teammates who share the same destination, who encourage one another, and who keep moving together even when the path becomes difficult. There were moments of exhaustion, moments of silence, moments when the feet hurt and breathing felt heavy under pressure. There were also moments when we wanted to stop, admire the scenery, and simply stay there a little longer. Yet, the feeling of reaching the summit together—as a team—was profoundly rewarding. I believe the conversations, stories, and reflections shared along that climb will stay with us for a long time.

Later, we sat down as a team to think deeply about the next ten years—how the world around us might change, and where we hope to stand in contributing to those positive changes. It became clear to me once again that going far—reaching milestones that truly matter—requires clarity of long-term goals, teammates aligned in vision, sustained positive motivation, physical and mental resilience, and the ability to remain calm and lucid amid pressure.

These experiences reminded me that Venture Capital is not a sprint—it's a long ascent. Like any meaningful climb, it demands patience, preparation, and trust in the people walking beside you.

I am sincerely grateful to the Genesia Team for these unforgettable experiences. They have strengthened my conviction and renewed my energy. As we step into 2026, I am genuinely excited about what lies ahead—meaningful investments, impactful projects, and continued efforts to create lasting positive change through Genesia Ventures.

The journey continues. Just keep fighting.
